Life lessons

Friday, March 28, 2008 - Weekend homework. Write a persuasive essay explaining, "what is the most important lesson your parents have ever taught you?" Be as specific as possible and tell how others can benefit from this lesson. Due by Monday, March 31, 2008 by 8:00 a.m.

In life their are many lessons to learn. Weather they are big lessons or litte, the decisions you make can be very crucial. Some people decide to go through these stages without the help of their parental figures. In this case I am one of those people. Many lessons I learned I learned them on my own.

I have been through life changing experiences and dealt with them on my own. Not because I did not have anyone their but because I really consider myself an independent young lady and I always try and do things on my own first. I realized that some people might call me selfish for that however, I feel it's my life and my decision. I still don't comprehend the concept of other people getting hurt from my decision.

The biggest life lesson that I have learned from my parents was to be honest. No matter what the situation is, telling the truth always feels better and sets you free. I have applied this rule to my life and things seem to have gotten a little bit better. The truth can really set you free, especially if you know you are in the wrong and an apology wouldn't hurt either.

I have also learned that you should talk to your parents about ANYTHING! I know it sounds crazy but it will save you a lot of trouble and hurt. Unfortunately I had to learn that the hard way. Some people ask me would I go back and change anything that took place in my past and truthfully, no because everything happens for a reason. We make mistakes to learn from them in the future so I believe that the things that occurred in my life were to help me and not hurt me.

In conclusion, the biggest life lessons come from your mistakes. So unless you make them, you will never have the opportunity to correct them. I believe that all my mistakes and soon to be mistakes are gonna help me build my future and a new way of life. I actually thank the people who snitched on me, all the teachers who called my house, all the boys who spread rumors thank you because it made me stronger.

1. How do power and authority change hands over the course of the play?
2. Discuss how minor characters such as George Murchison, Willy Harris, and Mr. Lindner represent the ideas against which the main characters react.
3. What sort of statement does Hansberry seem to be making about race? Does she make more than one statement? If so, do these statements conflict with each other?

The power and authority plays a big role in this story. Many additional characters changed the ways of the main characters think and the wat they acted. Many bthings were starting to be discussed in this chapter such as race. Though this has caused many conflicts, she contines to go on in her train of thoughts.

Minor characters in this corse of the play cause major conflicts between the family and it also has brought them alot of tension. Rasicim and fruad was the main point of confusion. thier has been conflicts from conartist to racism. The main characters rected in a which would have been totally expected of them. If we were put into the same position we probabaly would have done the same thing.

I believe that Hansberry was trying to create a simple thought towards people who have diffierent opinons about race. I feel that she was trying to get the point across of how harsh and cruel racism could be. She expresses pain as well as growth in the duration of this play. Of course this has caused opinions to rise and conflicts to start. This however became the climax of the story.

English Essay
1. How does the idea of assimilationism become important?
2. Discuss the title of the play. How does it relate to the dreams of each of the characters?
3. Think about the role of money in the play. How does it affect different characters?

In the past, we were instructed to read and watch the ever so popular “a raisin in the sun”. This heartbreaking movie was one of the most meaningful movies I have ever seen. Unlike most movies, this one had a meaning, It told a story. It spoke upon such issues as money, pregnancy, racism, and even religion. If you were to have never seen this movie, the title really does it justice.

Usually the phrase that people live by is “you can not judge a book by it’s cover.” Actually this one you can. What does a raisin in the sun mean to you? To me it’s the drying out of someone’s goals and dreams all for something that probably was not even worth it. Many people fail to think beyond the means of the words and the meanings in the dictionaries.

The title of the story really connects to the dreams of most of the characters. All did not go to well for everyone in the family. For example, Walter had this outrageous dream of becoming owner of a liquor store. He tried to make money by any means necessary. Even if it meant degrading himself by being “the best trained monkey you’ve ever seen” show furring snotty Caucasians around all day. His mother finally gave him the money, until she found out what it was for then just like the title his dream became a raisin in the sun.

Money was one of the greatest issues in this play. It caused a lot of destruction but in the end turned out to work just fine. Everybody had a plan for the check that Lena was going to receive including her. Now as you know everyone could not have their way with this so some feelings were going to get hurt. I believe the money was most important to Ruth because she was a stay at home wife with a son and a child on the way however it was not her money to spend. After Lena decided to move into the dream house that she always wanted, the situation became less complicated.

In conclusion, this story went through a lot of the same problems that many people of today go through and not just colored people. Everyone in the world of today’s society has a problem. There were no such things as perfect families back then and there are no perfect families now. Money, pregnancy, racism, and even religion is still a problem even until today so a raisin in the sun is not just a successful play, it's also our lives.

essay for ms. valaerie 3-25-08

If I were to run for President in the 1860’s before the abolishment of slavery what would be the four most important issues that I would focus on?

Many people may consider different things to be considered rather important to them. Slavery is defiantly of importance to me. I feel as though the president has control over what ever happens in his country so he could have quickly put a stop to it that is, if he wanted to. If I were to have ran for president back in the 1860’s before the abolishment of slavery I would have focused on these four main topics:

Rights
Racial discrimination
Freedom
New laws

I would most defiantly focus on rights for one because even though it was not established then I would have made it known that it was not eight to hold people and work them against their will. Like they always say if you want something done right, some times you just have to do it yourself. Maybe it’s the fact that most slave owners were just too lazy to do it for them selves. Or maybe it was the fact that they enjoyed to see African Americans doing hard labor getting whipped wit no pay or even a thank you. What ever the reason maybe, it was unfair.

I would deeply focus on racial discrimination. All the slaves that were owned were all black. Why did you never see a white slave? Well because their never was one. Why did the average African man only equal to 3/5 of a European? Because, they simply did not believe that fact that an African American was worth a whole human being.

I would also focus on freedom. You truly have nothing at all if you don’t have your freedom. Pride is one thing, self respect is another but if you don’t have your freedom, you can not do anything. Having total and complete ownership of another person is so wrong in so many ways. If you did not mother or father that person then they do not belong to you. Imagine if some stranger had total control of your life, terrible right?

Last but not least I would focus on new laws. One of the reasons none of the earlier presidents abolished slavery is because they did not care. In fact I believe that the only reason Africans were not allowed to vote is because the out numbered the slave owners and if they found some one that was on there side for presidency then their plan for world domination would have been ruined. So by keeping slaves of the polls it keep anybody for slavery in office.

ESSAY (3-24-08)

PREPAIRING FOR OUR FUTURE

IN CLASS TODAY, WE WERE ABLE TO WATCH THE REST OF OUR CLASS MATES SHOW US WHAT THEY HAD TO OFFER. FRANKLY FOR THE MOST PART I WAS IMPRESSESD HOWEVER THEIR WERE A VIEW GLITCHES IN THE PROGRAM. MANY PEOPLE HAD GREAT IDEA'S HOWEVER THEY DID NOT POTRAY THEM WELL ENOUGH IN THEIR PRESENTATION. OTHER IDEA'S WERE NOT SO GREAT BUT THE PRESENTED WITH SUCH TALENT AND HOPE THAT IT ACTUALLY MADE THEIR PRODUCT LOOK A LITTLE BIT BETTER. THIS MADE THEM A LITTLE MORE UNDERSTANDABLE.

MANY PEOPLE ARE HEADING DOWN THE SAME PATH AS FAR AS DESIGNING CLOTHES AND FASHION IN GENERAL GO. ALOT OF PEOPLE ARE ALSO FOCUSING ON DANCE OR MUSIC. ITS RARE THAT YOU EVER SEE PEOPLE GO OUTSIDE THE BOX. WELL IT WAS UNTIL TODAY. THEY WERE RATHER DIFFERENT YET AND STILL, IT INTREST ME. THEY SAY THE BIGEST CHANCE YOU EVER TAKE IN LIFE IS NOT TAKING ONE AT ALL AND THE KIDS OF TODAY DEFINALY TOOK A CHANCE.

TO BE MORE SPECIFIC, LET'S TAKE JASMINE FOR EXAMPLE. HER COMPANY WAS BASED ON SKATEBOARD. NOW IM NOT SURE, BUT THAT MAY BE THE ONLY PERSON IN THE NINTH GRADE GOING ANYWHERE NEAR DOING SOMETHING IN MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION. EVEN THOUGH HERE NAME WAS NOT APPROPRIATE, THE CONCEPT WAS AND I APPLAUDE HER FOR THE EFFORT AND DARING TO BE DIFERENT. MAYBE SHE COULD BE THE BEGINNING OF A NEW TREND WHERE ALL THE KIDS SKATEBOARD TO SCHOOL.

ANOTHER ONE WHICH SEEMED TO REALLY GRAB MY ATTENTION WAS KEVIN HOWARD. I ABOSOLOUTLY LOVE THE FACT THAT HE REALLY WENT OUT AND DID A LOT A RESEARCH ABOUT HIS BUSINESS. THEIR IS NO ONE WHO DARED TO TRY TO DO SOMOTHING SO BIG AS MODIFY COMPUTERS. THIS JOB IS NOT EASY AND THE CHANCE THAT HE IS TAKING COULD LEAVE HIM IN A DIRE SITUATION HOWEVER HE STRIVES FOR THE BEST. I BELIEVE THAT THIS WOULD BE ONE OF THE MOST PROFITIBLE BUSINESS FROM NEW MEDIA. TAKING APART AND REBUILDING COMPUTERS AND SPYWARE REALLY COSTS A LOT OF MONEY AND IF HE'S ANY GOOD, HE WILL BE GETTING PAID WITH IN NO TIME.

IN CONCLUSION, I AM REALLY SURPRISED WITH WHAT I SEEN TODAY TO BE QUITE HONEST. ITS NOT THE FACT THAT I DID NOT EXPECT THEM TO BE SO CREATIVE ITS THE FACT THAT I DID NOT KNOW THAT WE HAD SO MANY TALENTED KIDS WHO ATTENTED OUR SCHOOL. ALL THE IDEA'S ARE GREAT THEY JUST MIGHT NEED A LITTLE MORE ELABORATION ON THEM. BESISDES THAT, I WOULD JUST LIKE TO TELL EVERYBODY TO KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND TRY TO GET BETTER.

MY THOUGHTS ON PRESENTATION

TODAY (3-12-08) WE HAD PRESENTATIONS FOR OUR MATH PROJECT. SOME OF THEM WERE REALLY GREAT AND SOME OF THEM WERE NOT TO WELL ORGANIZED. TAKE AKIRA (PILLOWSHWAY) FOR EXAMPLE, HER PRESENTATION WAS OUTSTANDING. SHE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT SHE WAS TALKING ABOUT AND SHE HAD INFORMATION TO BACK IT UP. SHE IS ONE OF THE FEW PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY ALREADY STARTED THEIR BUSINESS PLAN PROJECT AND SHE'S MAKING MONEY WHILE DOING IT.

THERE WERE SOME NOT SO GREAT PRESENTATIONS AS WELL SUCH AS RICHARD AND TAURIEN (FREAK ZONE INC.) AS QUESTIONS WERE POSED THEY WERE NOT TO SHORE ON THE ANSWER AND I FEEL AS THOUGH YOU SHOULD KNOW ANY AND EVERYTHING ABOUT YOUR PRODUCT OR BUSINESS. TODAY WAS AN OVERALL GOOD DAY FOR PRESENTERS HOWEVER I JUST THINK THAT PEOPLE NEED TO TAKE THEIR TIME WITH FINDING OUT MORE INFO

TODAY (3-14-08)
WE VIEW SOME MORE PROJECTS. I WAS REALLY INTO A COUPLE OF THEM LIKE FASHION STAR AND INSANE BRANIAC. THESE WERE THE TWO THAT STOOD OUT TO ME THE MOST BECAUSE THEY WERE THE ONES WHO REALLY APPEARED AS IF THEY WERE ABOUT THEIR COMPANY AND THEY KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING. I WOULD ACTUALLY BY THEIR PRODUCTS BECAUSE THEY ARE VERY CONFIDENT AND THAT LETS ME KNOW THAT I HAVE NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO SEE BUSINESSES THAT ARE UP AND RUNNING BECAUSE AS A TEEN I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THAT MY FELLOW TEENAGE FREINDS WOULD BE ABLE TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THE NEAR BY FUTURE.

TODAY (3-24-08)
WE VIEWED WHAT I BELIEVE TO BE THE LAST OF THE PROJECTS. I
HAVE SEEN GREAT (LIKE JANAY & JASMINE) AND I HAVE SEEN SOME WHOM WHICH
NEED A LITTLE MORE GUIDENCE AND IMPROVEMENT (LIKE TARELL). I PERSONALLY
BELIEVE THAT WE HAVE TO MANY PEOPLE TRYING TO ACHIEVE THE SAME GOAL OF
DESIGNING CLOTHES MAINLY HOODIES. THIS IS ONE OF THE MAIN REASONS WHY I WAS REALLY REFRESHED BY JASMINE AND JANAY WITH THEIR WONDERFUL AND ORIGINAL IDEA. ALOT OF TEENS TODAY GO THROUGH THE UNIMAGINABLE PAINS OF GROWING UP IN WHICH THEY SEEK HELP. IT IS WAY MORE COMFORTING KNOWING THAT YOU ARE NOT A LONE AND THAT YOU COULD RECEIEVE THAT HELP FROM ONE OF YOUR BEST FRIENDS SO THAT IS ONE OF THE WEBSITES I WILL BE
VISITING IN THE NEAR BY FUTURE.

HONESTY

Honesty? What do you really think this word means? Is it a rule you live by or is a just another word of the english language? Many people have asked me for my opinion on honesty. Have you ever took the time and liberty to define it? If not think about it, all that makes up honesty is a good person with moral values who has enough self respect as well as respect for others to do whats right and just tell the truth. However, for many people sadly this is to much to ask. There aren't a lot of honest people in this crel society that we live in today so you can not really trust people.

Honesty to me means loyalty, trustworthy, even glory and praise. All you have to do is tell it like it is. Alot of people are sitting behind bars now due to the lack of honesty when they had a chance to. If more people stepped outside the box and actually took responsibilty for there actions, then many people would not even be in the situation that they are in now. Sure you can be Mr. Sticky fingers at the time but when it comes down to it all you can not even pay the price so why even waist your time and thought.

Did you know that it actually takes less energy to be honest than to lie? Seriously, because after you tell one lie you have to cover it up wit another one and another one and so forth when all you had to do in the beginning was tell the truth. People do not think that far ahead though. They never really that about the consequences and reprocussions of their actions. Trust and believe me if they did, this world would be a much better place that what it is now.

You know, it almost sickens me to know that the reason that we are living in such harsh conditions is because someone lied or did not speak up. Technically not speacking up is the same thing as telling a lie jus in a different form. If all I have to do is speack up to save a couple of lives, you better believe that I will be the one to step out of my box and actually do it. Most of the violence that takes place in our neighborhodds today is because of sombody not being honest. It is sad to see your neighborhood on the news every night for something that is taught at home.

In conclusion, being honest could actually be the savyor that this world despriatly needs. Just think, we think we have it bad now but when we have children and they have children, there is little to no chance of surviving. Just as Bishop T.D Jakes said "It takes a village to raise a child but who has raised the village?" I feel this is a question we should all ask ourselves and then se who is truely honest with the answer.
